Abigail stepped out of her sister’s car, taking a breathe of air for the first time in their new town, readying herself to face the task of going through their new house and getting everything and everyone settled in. As her Converse-clad feet stepped out onto the ground for the first time, she looked around at the area. It wasn’t a quaint little neighborhood, but it wasn’t country, either. Their land was supposed to be almost two full acres. Enough space for a big backyard and all its accessories. Dad would be able to have his own workshop and the kids could have a clubhouse. It would be perfect, she just knew it.
Abigail reached into her bag and pulled out the key to their new house. They had just stopped at the realtor’s office to get the key and the kids had headed toward the house while her dad went ahead and checked in at the university he was to be working at. Abigail couldn’t help but smile as her younger sister and brothers ran around the yard and toward the back where a swing set already awaited them, just waiting for someone to come and start playing. She walked up to the front door and slipped the key in; a perfect fit. As she turned the key, she thought about all the possibilities that awaited them.
Abigail opened the door and stepped inside, pulling out the little tiny basket and setting in on the floor next to the door before slipping the key in the basket. It was the first thing to go into their new house. She then turned and headed toward the back of the minivan, ready to start unpacking all their things, calling to the younger ones to come and help. It was a new place, a new beginning, and new experiences to endure; it was an adventure, and she couldn’t wait to explore…
